If I’m being honest, even with as much as I love fashion, I could never really justify buying a lot of maternity clothes. I wanted to make do with what I already had in my closet, and find new ways to use my clothes to dress my growing bump. But since I’ve had quite a few events and occasions lately, I needed to dress up a little more than usual. I had to get creative, but after searching and searching through things, I finally found some cute pieces and key items that came together perfectly.

Now I’m sharing with you some of my best tips and tricks to dressing the bump—with pieces you probably already have in your own closet!

Fitted Dresses For the Win
Once the bump starts growing it’s just so much easier to throw in a dress. For one, it’s way more comfortable with the extra wiggle room. Two, it’s cute and flattering on the bump!

Jacket/Cardigan/Blazer Outer Piece
Whether pregnant or not, I love an outer layer piece over a dress or my tank and leggings to dress up the outfit. It’s so funny how one simple blazer can easily add just the right touch to a basic outfit! Or sometimes it just makes you feel more comfortable—but still put together—especially if you’re pregnant during colder months!

Remember: Maternity Leggings Are a Must
In a word, leggings are: Life saving! That may seem a bit extreme, but right now these are about all I like to wear. Absolutely no jeans or any other pants have been worn in this pregnancy, especially since I starting showing much sooner this time around!! I always look for good quality, super comfortable, and stretchy leggings. My go-to favorites? The Spanx maternity leggings—I wear them even when not pregnant.

Dress It Up With a Cute Shoe/Bag

Even with the most basic of outfits—like jeans and a t-shirt—a great accessory changes the whole look. The right shoe can make your legs look longer, while the right bag makes any outfit look a bit more put together and stylish. Try it out, mix and match, and have some fun with it.

Wear Black

Always a go-to of mine , I feel my best and most confident in black—pregnant or not. But especially when pregnant, it definitely helps with not looking as huge as you may feel, haha!

Plus, don’t forget, you can always add accessories to it for a pop of color.
